Arcee, a U.S.-based startup with a team of 26 employees, has unveiled its latest achievement in artificial intelligence: the Trinity Large Thinking model. This truly gigantic open-source language model (LLM) boasts a staggering 400 billion parameters. It was conceived and produced with the modest budget of $20 million. Trinity Large Thinking, which Arcee has just started, aims to provide U.S. and Western companies a credible, even attractive, alternative to Chinese-based models. Thus, many businesses see such models as risky due to data security implications and governmental oversight.

Trinity Large Thinking is licensed under the Apache 2.0 license. Each company can download the model, customize it to their specific needs and use it in the absolute privacy of their own premises. This flexibility ensures that organizations can continue to leverage the most advanced AI capabilities regardless of who creates them. It frees users from the restrictions usually associated with proprietary platforms. Arcee offers a cloud-hosted version of their model. Businesses can easily access it through a simple API, making the integration of AI-powered solutions into their daily operations a breeze.

Mark McQuade, CEO of Arcee, underscored the startup’s focus on delivering a competitive product tailored for Western markets. He stated that Trinity Large Thinking is the most capable open-weight model ever released by a company outside of China. As of this writing, the model has not consistently beaten closed-source competitors from larger labs such as Anthropic or OpenAI. It has quickly shot up to be one of the most popular applications on OpenClaw, an up and coming platform for AI applications.

Anthropic just announced some details about their new subscription model. What’s more, beginning today, OpenClaw users have to pay additional fees for OpenClaw usage — this launch is of even wider consequence because of that. This change has resulted in companies needing to look for other alternatives. Arcee’s mission is to be a strong, positive, and winning player in this new world. Arcee provides an alternative that circumvents the licensing issues associated with Meta’s Llama model. This collaborative approach has the potential to draw in organizations that worry about legal and operational roadblocks.

Trinity Large Thinking is an important part of Arcee’s strategy. Its goal is to offer U.S. and Western companies powerful motivation to avoid Chinese AI models like the plague. Most companies know that these models can produce significant harms. They risk placing sensitive information and operational command under the control of a government antithetical to Western values or democratic ideals. Arcee’s initiative is an important bellwether of the growing desire among state and local governments to empower businesses to make selections based on security and ethical considerations.
