SoCreate Transforms Screenwriting with AI Imagery and Collaborative Tools

SoCreate is looking to transform the way screenwriters work by integrating generative AI imagery and community-driven sharing tools into its platform, offering a more visually engaging alternative to traditional tools like Final Draft and Celtx. A major feature of the platform is the AI-powered image generator, which will allow writers to create visual representations of their characters, settings, and action moments. While it doesn’t provide AI-generated writing tools, SoCreate’s goal is to inspire writers and make the screenwriting process more creative.

Founder and CEO Justin Couto, dissatisfied with the conventional screenwriting format, wanted a more dynamic approach to writing for a visual medium. Couto’s vision has led to the development of SoCreate’s image uploader tool, which allows users to upload their own images or select from an existing gallery. In the future, AI-generated imagery will further enhance this feature, powered by a combination of models like OpenAI and Stable Diffusion.

Another major feature of SoCreate is “Storyteller,” a public library where users can share their scripts and other screenwriters can read them, similar to Wattpad. This feature allows writers to build a public portfolio and market their work more effectively without relying on Hollywood connections. However, some writers may prefer to keep their work private due to concerns over plagiarism. To address this, SoCreate uses encryption and offers a strict anti-plagiarism policy, allowing users to control the visibility of their scripts.

SoCreate also offers tools for collaboration, such as a commenting system where readers can leave notes directly under scripts. This feature allows screenwriters to receive immediate feedback without having to export their work to PDFs. Additionally, the platform includes Reading Stats, which provide valuable insights into how much of a script was read, where readers stopped, and how long they spent reading each section.

The platform, which launched in May, is primarily aimed at people writing movies, TV shows, and short films, but SoCreate is exploring other formats, including articles, novels, and short stories. With plans to expand into new verticals such as business, education, and journalism, the company hopes to create a revenue-sharing system that allows creators to earn from their work through subscriptions.

Since its launch, SoCreate has attracted over 1,200 subscribers, including writers who have worked for major companies like Amazon, Disney, Marvel, and Netflix. The platform also runs pilots with high schools in California and Illinois to engage young writers. While the basic platform is free, users can upgrade to the Professional tier for $10 per month, which includes access to the custom image tool and reviewer stats, or the Personal tier for $5 per month, which includes unlimited projects and access to the image gallery.

SoCreate, which closed a $3 million pre-seed round last year, is now raising a $5 million seed round to fund further development and marketing efforts. The company believes its tools will not only enhance the screenwriting process but also open up new opportunities for creators as its community continues to grow.
