Levy Health Aims to Speed Up Fertility Diagnoses for Women

Caroline Mitterdorfer’s personal experience with early-stage cancer at age 27 led her to delve into fertility issues and become an advocate in the space. Realizing how long it took doctors to diagnose fertility problems, she co-founded Levy Health to address this gap. Levy Health, based in San Francisco, has developed a clinical decision support platform designed to help physicians diagnose fertility issues in women more quickly. The platform gathers information from patients—such as how long they’ve been trying to conceive and their ovulation tracking habits—and processes lab results before an appointment.

Levy Health’s software analyzes a patient’s answers, biomarkers, and lab results, narrowing down 110 potential diagnoses to just a few likely conditions. It presents this information, along with potential treatments, to doctors before consultations, leading to a 50% reduction in diagnosis time, according to Mitterdorfer. Though clinical decision support platforms are not new, Mitterdorfer emphasized that this is a novel approach in the fertility space, where many women discuss fertility issues with OB-GYNs or primary care doctors who may lack specialized knowledge.

Mitterdorfer, together with her co-founders Silvia Hecher, Chief Product Officer, and Dr. Theresa Vilsmaier, founding physician, launched Levy Health in 2022 in Germany. After regulatory approval in Europe, the team moved to the U.S. in 2023, where the company found a better market fit and quickly gained six B2B customers, including Progyny, Boston IVF, and Everie.

Recently, Levy Health raised $4.5 million in a seed round led by XYZ Venture Capital, with participation from Atlantic Labs and Possible Ventures. The funding will be used to expand the team, continue developing the technology, and fund clinical studies focused on areas such as fertility and egg freezing.

As the U.S. fertility market grows—expected to reach $6.19 billion in 2023 and increase by 63% by 2033—other companies like Carrot, Mira, and Pozitivf are also targeting this sector. Despite the competition, Mitterdorfer remains focused on Levy Health’s mission: to help millions of women receive earlier diagnoses and better fertility care.
