Now a second major data breach has been reported, with Tea, the dating safety app. This event reveals personal information and photos for nearly 72,000 users. As revealed in trading on the notorious online forum 4chan, users there are exchanging sensitive personal information,” reports 404 Media. This has included selfies and biometric photo IDs that they’ve gotten through the app.

The exposed database featured an astonishing 13,000 selfies submitted by users of the service. That includes the specific photo IDs needed to verify one’s account. On top of everything else, the breach exposes 59,000 images from posts, comments and direct messages sent on the app. At the very least, this incident should concern all users’ privacy. More importantly, it puts data security at risk, particularly for those Americans whose information they submitted to verify.

As indicated by the report, the data breach took place well before July 26, 2025. Even after the dangerous incident, Tea maintained its position as the top free app in Apple’s App Store as of Saturday morning. They show remarkable continued user engagement, even in the face of growing security worries.

On the breach, Tea’s officials said they’ve involved outside third-party cybersecurity experts to remediate the breach. They underscored their desire to ensure user data was always safe and rebuild trust with their growing user base.

“We have engaged third-party cybersecurity experts and are working around the clock to secure our systems.” – Tea

In response to the breach, the company has since put in place new security measures. They promised users that work is being done to fix the erroneous data and improve security processes across the board.

“At this time, we have implemented additional security measures and have fixed the data issue.” – Tea

Federal investigators are certainly deeply focused on how this breach occurred. In the meantime, users need to be vigilant about their data and personal information and should consider changing their passwords or implementing additional safety measures on the platform. This shocking occurrence underlines the requirement for top notch security actions. Applications that process sensitive user data, such as consent management platforms, need to take extra care to protect this information.
