SATELLAI, a new player in pet tech, unveiled a satellite-connected pet tracker and smart collar at CES 2025. Designed for dog owners, the products feature advanced location tracking, health monitoring, and AI-powered guidance through a companion app. Unlike most pet trackers, SATELLAI’s device connects directly to satellites without relying on LTE signals, ensuring consistent tracking even in remote areas.
The company was founded by Mark Mao, a former executive at Huami, the Chinese smart wearables firm known for Amazfit. Mao’s inspiration for SATELLAI came after discovering his dog injured itself while he was away. Determined to create a better solution, Mao developed a collar equipped with seven sensors to track metrics like heart and breath rates.
SATELLAI claims its tracker is the first to use Qualcomm’s 9205S modem for direct satellite connectivity, eliminating the need for terrestrial signals. The collar also incorporates dual-signal GPS technology (L1 and L5) for accurate positioning, particularly in areas with obstructions like trees or walls.
Other features include virtual fencing, customizable correctional feedback to manage behaviors such as excessive barking, and a solar-powered harness for on-the-go recharging. Health tracking and activity recommendations are accessible through the SATELLAI app, which uses AI to provide personalized care insights.
The SATELLAI collar is set to launch in February, while the tracker is expected to follow in the spring. Pricing details for both products are not yet available.
