Innovative Voice-Capturing Pendant Taya Raises $5 Million in Seed Funding

Taya, a first-of-its-kind wearable device, is engineered to isolate the user’s voice. Speculation has successfully raised $5 million in a seed funding round led by Massachusetts-based Accomplice. Inspired in 2024 by their own struggles to connect, former Apple engineers Elena Wagenmans, Cinnamon Sipper, and Amy Zhou started Taya. Their sole purpose? To change the way the world thinks.

The $2 million funding round brought in noteworthy investment from MaC Venture Capital and the Female Founders Fund. Further joining the round was a16z Speedrun. Taya, our privacy-first community device is available for pre-order at $89! It only records the user’s voice, cutting out all other noise and dialogue in the background.

Taya sets itself apart from other note-taking tools by zooming in on intentional solo capture. The device features a button that users can tap to start and stop recording, with its microphone turned off by default to enhance privacy. This focus on the individual user sets Taya apart from ambient recorders that capture entire environments, including meetings and conversations.

Adrian Fenty, managing partner at MaC Venture Capital, who aligned with this sentiment and underscored Taya’s far-reaching potential, continued. He noted,

“We realized that there is a lot of utility that you can provide, being a single-player gadget. Essentially, we want to capture your voice, not the room that you’re in or the other people.”

Today, Taya runs out of the SF office with a full-time team of five employees and as many as ten contractors. As one of the city’s largest employers, the company’s workforce collaborates in person, fostering an environment conducive to innovation and development.

“We’re excited about the category, but would actually place Taya outside of the notetaker bucket. Those products are ambient recorders; they capture meetings and conversations around you. Taya’s intentional, single-player capture is focused on just you. We believe that Taya can be a company that aids human work and personal evolution, and helps humans to understand their own behavior while making it more fun in the process.”

This experience will be invaluable for the founders, having all worked extensively within Apple. This experience gives them the ability to innovate a product that fits the new requirements for personal recording devices. Taya respects the privacy of users and provides dedicated contextual features. The founders would like the device to be useful, indeed useful in ways that enrich personal psychological and emotional development, insight, and understanding.
