Kesha, the 38-year-old pop superstar and entrepreneur, has made a splashy debut in the world of startups with the launch of her new venture, Smash. This collaborative new platform is designed to be a creative community-oriented hub to help connect, educate and protect the music creator community. Last year, Kesha filed to become an independent artist, and she launched her own record label. This latest announcement is a perfect fit for Smash’s mission.

Smash aims to support artists’ rights at each stage of their artistic practice. Kesha envisions this platform as a space where musicians and creators can collaborate, hire each other, and ultimately retain all rights to their work. The singer shared her vision in a recent Instagram post, stating that it is “a community-based platform to connect and protect music creators.”

Kesha’s new business venture may come as a surprise to some, but it shouldn’t. She’s been lauded for her musical versatility beyond the scope of glitter-covered dancefloor smashes since time immemorial. One recent example includes a rap that playfully addresses the subject of brushing teeth with Jack Daniel’s. This is a great example of her creativity and unique storytelling abilities.

Kesha is a highly educated musical force of nature. She received her BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania and was a Princeton in Asia Fellow in Laos. These experiences speak to her understanding of creativity and community, creative community that will most definitely set the tone for creative community going forward with Smash.

Kesha has made strategic moves by removing the dollar sign from her name, signaling a new chapter in her career. She is personally funding the Smash seed round, underscoring her personal commitment to this important new effort. Leading the platform’s technological development as Smash’s Chief Technology Officer is Alan Cannistraro, whose experience will prove invaluable.

The launch of Smash follows Kesha’s recent performances at music festivals, where she has captivated audiences with her dynamic presence. She’s a superstar killer as both a creative and businesswoman. What this really does is highlight her astounding versatility and boundary-pushing ambition in today’s music industry.

As Kesha continues to evolve as an artist and business leader, her initiatives aim to reshape how creators interact with one another and protect their rights.

“I want a place where artists and music makers of any kind can have community, they can collaborate, they can hire each other and retain all the rights to everything they create.” – Kesha
