Berlin-based logistics startup Mirelo has raised $41 million in a seed funding round. This round was led by Index Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz, increasing Mirelo’s total funding to $44 million. The company aims to revolutionize video production by enhancing the sound experience through its innovative AI model, Mirelo SFX v1.5, which interprets videos and adds synchronized sound effects.

With CJ Simon-Gabriel, Mirelo’s CEO and co-founder, at the helm, they are establishing this push. He collaborates with his co-founder, Florian Wenzel, an AI researcher and musician. This unique new model meets a critical need in the field of video production. It has empowered creators to easily and affordably add sound effects, which has often long been overlooked.

Now, all of a sudden, everyone wakes up—‘Oh wait, maybe we should do sound!’ You need to do a little bit of sound. It’s a little like silent movies versus talkies, no? It does make quite a difference!

Mirelo SFX v1.5 In order to provide the best experience possible, Mirelo uses both purchased and public sound libraries. The Boston based company has released their models on platforms such as Fal.ai and Replicate. It empowers creators to leverage the latest in cutting-edge AI technology to realize their creative visions.

The news comes as the company today released Mirelo SFX v1.5. Looking ahead, it intends to broaden its platform by launching AI music generation in the near future. For Mirelo, the excitement continues as they are currently planning to double and possibly triple their staff of 10 employees. This increase is projected to occur by the end of next year. The new hires will be instrumental in supporting Mirelo’s research and development (R&D). Even more broadly, they will help sharpen the company’s overall product and go-to-market strategies.

Mirelo is aiming pretty specifically at the market of amateur creators and prosumers. Their first seven lessons are free, after which they provide a freemium model with recommended subscription plan at €20 per month (~$23.50). With this approach, they hope to quickly put their smart, innovative technology in the hands of many more. Despite that, it’s still packed with premium features for serious users.

The new startup wants to develop a solid revenue base mostly through API monetization in the near future. By getting the technological foundation solid enough, Simon-Gabriel thinks they can have a sustainable competitive advantage within the industry. It’s to the latter’s advantage to actually build the real moat here, and then find ways to profit from it,” he said.

Mirelo is currently working on Mirelo Studio, a dedicated creative workspace and business incubator. This space is designed to nurture them and its potential eventual fulltime professional use is an added benefit. This new initiative fits well with the company’s purpose of empowering creativity and bringing the world’s voice to life through technology that inspires the video production community.

Mirelo wants to protect artists’ rights by signing revenue-sharing contracts with sound creators. This ethical approach goes beyond benefiting artists; it makes users of their platform’s content more informed and engaged.

Mirelo is always developing and adding new services. Its mission is to revolutionize audio for the next generation of video content creators.
