TechCrunch Duo Explores AI Frontiers with Anthropic’s Jared Kaplan

During a recent episode of TechCrunch’s flagship podcast Equity, co-hosts Theresa Loconsolo and Maxwell Zeff were joined by Jared Kaplan. He’s the co-founder and chief science officer at Anthropic, and we had a fascinating conversation with him. The episode explored Anthropic’s ambitious plans in the artificial intelligence landscape, including its recent funding achievements and innovative partnerships.

Theresa is an audio producer at TechCrunch. Although she’s been busy working on the Equity podcast, which has quickly risen to prominence with its sharp examination of the technology and finance industries. Loconsolo, who lives in New Jersey, earned a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Monmouth University. Co-host Maxwell Zeff in particular goes deep on AI and other emerging technologies. He’ll be drawing on his hands-on experiences as a senior reporter at TechCrunch. Zeff, who now resides in the Bay Area, has a deep and distinguished history in technology journalism. He is a frequent contributor to these and other esteemed outlets such as Gizmodo, Bloomberg and MSNBC. In particular, his smart reporting has shined a light on the impending dangers of the generative AI boom, as well as the recent collapse of Silicon Valley Bank.

During the podcast episode, Kaplan shared insights about Anthropic’s recent funding round, which raised $3.5 billion at a staggering valuation of $61.5 billion. Lightspeed Venture Partners is leading the funding round. This support will help Anthropic further accelerate its research and development while operating competitively in the rapidly growing AI marketplace.

Kaplan further noted the launch of Anthropic’s new blog focused on its Claude models. More importantly, this initiative is intended to equip the community with information and understanding on the potential of their AI systems. He announced a pretty cool new partnership with Apple. Together, they will create a “vibe-coding” software platform that demonstrates Anthropic’s firm commitment to developing innovative applications of AI.

Loconsolo and Zeff focused on the need to consider the bigger picture, especially what improving technology would mean, during their chat. They explored how partnerships like that of Anthropic and Apple could redefine user interaction with technology, potentially leading to more intuitive applications.
