Wiz, a pioneering cloud security technology firm, has made waves recently with an acquisition offer from Google at an astounding $23 billion. Founded by Assaf Rappaport, Ami Luttwak, and Roy Reznik, Wiz stands at the intersection of three significant trends: artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and increased security spending. Shardul Shah is an investor who was previously one of the earliest investors in Adallom, which was also founded by the same three. Yet he’s convinced that the acquisition of Wiz should be celebrated as one of this year’s, if not this decade’s, most consequential deals.

Google’s recent focus on security solutions further highlights how critically important these security solutions have become. While businesses are quickly scaling their operations to the cloud and adopting AI technologies, Rappaport decided not to accept the lucrative offer. His decision reflected profound confidence in Wiz’s potential and future growth.

“Wiz is at the center of three tailwinds: AI, cloud, and security spend,” Shah stated. He pointed out that these factors were what really made Wiz unique in today’s market. This singularity is what has made Wiz such a formidable tech player.

Wiz’s customer base, referred to as the “zero critical club,” comprises organizations that possess the insights necessary to prioritize security effectively. This strategic positioning shatters the silos of their respective worlds and increases their capacity to fight pressing security threats. Shah believes this is at the heart of today’s tech-enabled world.

Shardul Shah’s connection to Wiz’ founders goes back almost a decade.… Given this background, it’s notable that he joined the board of Adallom soon after its founding. In short, he’s always been a believer in Rappaport, Luttwak, and Reznik. “I believe in them more than they believe in themselves,” Shah remarked, expressing his confidence in their capacity to lead Wiz into a promising future.

There seems to be some disagreement on exactly when Wiz was around, with timelines currently placing him anywhere between six and 16 years. Yet, one thing is clear: Wiz has quickly risen to the top of security technology’s stack. As enterprises see this just becoming essential to secure their digital workloads, Wiz’s technology gets more and more important.

The importance of Rappaport’s leadership in this moment cannot be missed. Colleagues and industry observers hail him as an extraordinary talent—an unusually strong leader who can go beyond execution to make great, high-quality judgment calls. On the day he officially launched Wiz, he personally called Shah to share the wonderful news. This generous gesture acknowledges the deep and abiding connection between the two.

Shah wants this to be seen as more than just another deal.”I think this should qualify as deal of the year or decade, not just the week. Can we change that? Thank you,” he said.

As Wiz heads into a new chapter of its adventure, it’s an exciting time. Now it’s time to see how it builds on the momentum that’s clearly underway. AI security and cloud security are both hot topics right now. This focus shines a light on many of those growth opportunities, particularly as industries adapt to changing technological environments.
