New York Knicks player Miles McBride hopes his innovative new app Mmotion can bridge that gap. This app takes location based technology and puts it to exciting use with social discovery features. The app allows members to find new friends through shared interests and hobbies. It recommends local bars, restaurants, and social hotspots where you can meet up with each other. McBride developed Mmotion in collaboration with veteran startup founder Joe Einhorn, who brings a wealth of experience to the project.

Mmotion is still in beta and open only to NYC users, capped at 1,000 members. Anyone who wants to be able to use the app has to apply to join the membership. This collaborative platform is a refreshing departure from conventional friendship apps such as Bumble BFF. In fact, it’s already directly competing with popular location-sharing applications like Snap Map and Find My.

Mmotion has a new, exciting feature called “Personas,” letting users manage who has access to their location. This freedom allows users to tweak their exposure in accordance with context. For example, McBride would take on a “Deuce” Persona when interacting with Knicks fans on the street. When it comes to visiting other cities he prefers a more private setting.

“So Miles might have his ‘Deuce’ Persona, which is something where it’s a bit more curated, because he’s a public figure. So it’s for all the Knicks fans to see Miles go to places he’s okay with mainstream people knowing. And then he might have a Persona for when he goes to a different city, and he wants to be really low-key.” – Joe Einhorn

The app lets users set up to three different personal circles for sharing private locations. This feature is a dream come true for anyone who cares about privacy. So now, it’s easier than ever to get together with the people you trust.

Mmotion has added a new “Vault Mode” to keep users incognito by default. Unlike All Friends, this mode can be activated and deactivated at will, giving users even more control over their location sharing.

With regards to accessibility, Mmotion runs on a monthly subscription basis. While specific pricing information is not available yet, Einhorn suggested users that it would be “low” enough.

“It’s not going to be more than a cup of coffee per month. It’s not going to be anything crazy.” – Joe Einhorn

McBride’s drive for creating Mmotion comes from his own time of feeling isolated once joining the Knicks. He noted that several of his fellow players were either recently married with young families at home, or not making the most of their social opportunities.

“When I got up here, everybody on my team was married with kids or just kind of loners.” – Miles “Deuce” McBride

McBride’s goal with Mmotion is to create a sense of connection. He wants to talk to those most in need of connection, including in fast-moving urban expanses such as New York City. The app narrows the focus down to mutual interests. It seeks to match users and ignite connections based on their shared interests and associations.

Mmotion just launched in beta. The developers can’t wait to hear from users to help prioritize features and make the experience even better. The team envisions the app as a tool that not only promotes social interaction but empowers users with the ability to manage their privacy effectively.
