Cavela, an innovative procurement platform, has successfully raised $6.6 million in seed funding, co-led by XYZ Venture Capital and Susa Ventures. When Anthony Sardain founded his venture Cavela, he did so with a wealth of experience in data science and trade in his blood. It’s their mission to use the power of artificial intelligence to help brands eliminate 90% of their manufacturing costs.
The startup’s AI-driven agent identifies numerous potential manufacturers, reaching out through popular communication channels such as WhatsApp, email, and text. After years of work developing Cavela, founder Anthony Sardain has come forward with a powerful new answer that cuts through the chaos of sourcing. Prior to that, he was the head of data science at Tierra. He has a deep family history in trade and sourcing that goes back three generations. “You don’t just walk into Vietnam and build up a supply chain,” said Sardain, emphasizing the importance of a strategic approach in navigating international manufacturing landscapes.
Cavela’s customers include notable brands such as Western Welder Outfitting, known for fire-resistant apparel, and The Longhairs, a men’s grooming brand. These clients have shared that Cavela’s AI-driven platform significantly cuts the time needed to find the right manufacturing partners.
The tool’s effectiveness is exemplified by the platform’s 5 minute average response time. Sardain continues, all a brand needs to do is log in and put their product info in. Afterwards, they should be able to receive quotes in just a few days time.
“They log in a couple of days later, and there are quotes in their inbox,” he stated.
Its competitive landscape includes not only incumbents such as Alibaba, but other upstarts such as Pietra. Both companies use AI to enable companies to efficiently identify and procure goods. Cavela’s key differentiator is its role as a personal on-demand procurement team for brands. It automates functions that would otherwise demand a lot of tedious, time-consuming, human labor.
Analysis of large, complex data is where AI is transformative, Sardain emphasized, especially when it comes to developing products that save lives.
“Making products involves a lot of text data, image data, diagrams, sketches, photos. This is the kind of data that didn’t play nice with technology up until AI,” he explained.
