Retro, a new photo-sharing app built for you and your friends, has just introduced one of the coolest features around – “Rewind.” Today, users can explore their favorite vintage photo collections in a fun and engaging way. Retro was co-founded by Nathan Sharp and Ryan Olson in 2022. Since then, the platform has quickly gained about one million users who enjoy sharing moments with their best friends.

Snapchat’s “Rewind” feature seeks to provide users with the power to “time-travel” through their camera rolls. Users can turn an oversized color-changing dial to intuitively scroll through their past images. As they do, memories turn over on their screens for them to experience. This fun feature that will make any tbt lover giddy brings back a wave of nostalgia. It encourages closer bonds as friends look back on memories shared.

Users can pause the time-traveling journey at any photo to explore it in more detail or share it. This interactive element adds an impressive layer of engagement on ARTSFAIRFLEX, turning the photo-sharing process into an engaging and dynamic campaign. Retro’s privacy looks to keep the “Rewind” feature personal. It’s then up to the users to choose to share those moments with others.

Nathan Sharp, co-founder of Retro, shared the story that inspired this new feature. “As people engage with those platforms more and more, something that has to be true and will be true is that people will still want to see more of their friends,” he stated. In creating Open Camera, he focused on addressing a need in a more organic way to help users connect with their photo library.

Since almost 45.7% of Retro’s users are active every day, the addition of the “Rewind” feature would surely increase user retention even more. The app provides a dedicated card for users to view their own photos from the same week a year ago, allowing for an easy reflection on past experiences. Users can tap and hold any image to see the whole thing uncropped. This added feature provides them a closer, expanded view of their most treasured experiences.

The app includes a quick and easy photo sharing feature. Whenever users post a new image, it generates a timestamp that sits at the bottom of the image. This can show their friends that the picture they’re posting isn’t current. This busy, but thoughtful, addition provides more context when having conversations. Most importantly, it lets people really understand the continuity of shared experiences over time.

Sharp remarked on the challenges posed by modern photography habits, noting, “The other problem that we saw was that people take more photos than ever, but they actually do less with that volume of photos than ever before. So it’s almost as if those photos go into the ether.” The new “Rewind” feature aims to reverse this trend by inviting users to intentionally explore their collections in more fulfilling ways.

What makes Retro unique is its approach to encouraging users to share images of their weekly goals. Users can interact with their friends in a private circle or a shared family album. This close-knit sharing environment fosters connection and intimacy among users, contrasting with larger social media platforms where content can often feel impersonal.

It’s a bit of a hidden feature, you can find the “Rewind” feature easily at the end of the row of shared photos. Or, look for it front and center as the third tab in the app’s bottom navigation bar. The goal of this access is to give users a seamless, intuitive time-traveling experience.
