Sierra, the innovative new tech company co-founded by Bret Taylor and Clay Bavor, just made a major splash. In pursuit of these goals, they’ve recently purchased the AI startup Fragment, a Y Combinator backed company. This strategic move aims to bolster Sierra’s agent development efforts in France, bringing valuable expertise to the team with the addition of Fragment’s co-founders, Olivier Moindrot and Guillaume Genthial.
Former Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor in early 2023 moments after resigning from Salesforce. He remains chairman of the board at OpenAI and is currently turning his attention to his new efforts with Sierra. True to his vision, under his guidance, Sierra has moved quickly, raising over $630 million in capital so far. The company consistently basks in the glow of a $10 billion valuation. It’s got heavy hitters, such as Sequoia and Benchmark, as backers too.
Clearly, Sierra has already accomplished a lot in her short time in the AI space. Earlier this year, the company acquired Japan-based enterprise AI solutions provider Opera Tech and voice agent company Receptive AI in late March. These acquisitions, both of technology and experience, further demonstrate Sierra’s commitment to moving the needle with its technological capabilities and expanding their overall product suite.
Adding Fragment is primed to enhance Sierra’s powers even further. This improvement comes at a crucial moment, particularly in the development of AI agents purpose-built for the French market. Taylor and Bavor both underscored their faith in Moindrot and Genthial. They’re convinced that these two will add “powerful muscle” to Sierra’s long commitment to agent development.
Fragment, which recently raised $2 million in its seed round, has already proven its pivot into the generative AI space. This acquisition is another move reinforcing Sierra’s strategy to bring best-in-class technology and innovative solutions into its portfolio. It will serve a richly diverse clientele, including well-known companies such as Casper, Clear, and Brex.
Sierra is capitalizing on the unique integration of Fragment and the skills of its founders. This strategy will boost its position in the global race for leadership on artificial intelligence. The company is poised to leverage its growing resources and innovative capabilities to meet the evolving demands of the market.
